More Hockey - Flames Times Two

In the last two weeks, I have been lucky enough to get to go to two Flames games. Last week was Flames versus Canucks (who are my second favorite team), and last night was Flames vs. the Wild.

The Canucks had to go and be jerkwads and beat my Flames in a shootout, but the game was so good it almost didn't matter. Bertuzzi had a chance to keep things alive, but after beating Luongo on this crazy (and weird) move, he....hits the goal post. It was exciting. Another cool thing about that game was Lombardi, my favorite Flame, scored, which honestly, he doesn't do that much. Kiprusoff had a bunch of great saves, and one of the most amazing ones I've ever seen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evAQiz0XpEY). He basically layed out and someone deflected the puck (clearly about to go it) out, right at the line (up in the air). Kristin was cheering for the Canucks, so I blame her for the loss. ;)

My sister and I went to see the Wild game last night. Pretty much nothing happened in the first. There are maybe 3 shots on goal a side. The start of the second was a different story. The Flames scored twice in the first minute. One was Camelleri (I'm spelling that wrong, but I don't feel like looking it up, and really I spell it like most people: Calamari) and the second was a big point shot from Phaneuf. I think he ended up getting 2nd star for it, which surprised me. Other than that I thought he mostly bed-shat. Anyway, being up 2-zip was pretty much game over for the Wild. The final score was 4-1 Flames, but really it was never close.

Hockey in Canmore

I'm trying to wind down after hockey in Canmore. The Canmore team (sorry, Bow Valley Grizzlies) is super fun to play. Too bad the game wasn't on a weekend, because I really love Canmore. It would have been nice to get to go spend the day. With the game being Tuesday night and there being a snowstorm, it sort of felt like a commute. Also, we had 7 skaters. Convenient for commuting, but sheesh.

The game was great though! We lost 0-6, but these things happen when you play good teams. Everyone played really well, and our goalie stood on her head a few times. The other team was nice enough to still play hard (which I find respectful) , even in the third.

When I said yesterday that I was back on the blog train after my little hiatus, I didn't think I would have NO spare time again. Before now, I had 1/2 hr after work, and I made some food, ate it, and grabbed my hockey gear.

And....sleep now!

Hiatus - So Worth It ;)

What can I say? Oopsa. Did you think I was away? Or maybe my computer broke? Kidnapped?

The real answer: I had people in town. My friend Mere was here for 2 days, last weekend minus family day. Naturally we had to pack a lot of fun into 2 days.

Then Rookie got here Sunday night, and we had the whole week. :) We got up at 5:45 this morning to get her home, so I'm kind of bonking right now. Instead of trying to get into stories, I'll just post a couple photos.

My fingers are crossed that no one checked my blog, got nothing, checked again, no post, and gave up. Don't give up! I'll be a good little blogger.

Happy Long Weekend

That's all I've got for now, because I am out enjoying mine. I hope yours is fun too.

I AM THE CHAMPION!

Last night was my second session of group training, which this year we are doing through Peak Power at SAIT.

The weightlifting section of the workout was making me laugh last night. In a good way - it was also really hard. One exercise involved taking a barbell (15 lbs) and smoothly but quickly ripping it overhead. Start with your feet shoulder width apart, with your toes slightly pointed out. The barbell is on the ground between your feet. You squat down, grab the barbell with one hand (other other hand out for balance), at in a smooth motion, jump your feet apart, pull up on the weight and then extent your arm (with the weight) over your head. Try it now, without the weight. Now, tell me you didn't just think, "I AM THE CHAMPION!!" in your head as you did that. If you didn't, you did it wrong. ;) I couldn't help but think that every time I did one. And we did 4 sets of 8 per arm. I was THE CHAMPION a lot last night.

Next was something called a Kettlebell Suitcase Lift. A kettlebell is basically a round weight with a handle. To do a Kettlebell Suitcase Lift is just like picking up a suitcase (with one hand), using good form and mostly your legs. At this point my legs were getting pretty tired, and I developed this sideways off-hand flare thing. I couldn't stop doing it. I though, "Damn it left arm, a minute ago I was the CHAMPION, and now...I'm a little teapot." :(

Also in the circuit was wide pull-ups (not this kind...but their form looks close), assisted by a big elastic. Today I feel like someone stuck into my apartment overnight and tried to rip my arms off (completely in a good way). Terri said it best: "I think the layout trolls have a new off season job". In case you are unfamiliar, the layout troll comes to beat you in the night after laying out during a game of ultimate. You don't feel a think at the time (assuming you catch it).

Quality Surfing

I know I have said this already, but I really enjoy Google Analytics. Among other things, it allows me to see searches that people conduct that end them up on my blog, usually for about 4 seconds. ;) Just in case some of these poor, wandering interwebhighway wanderers ever come back to my blog, I wanted to address some of their questions.
Here is where some searches were folks came up short in their surfing:
  • "Trouble in Vegas Pools 2009". Sorry, but no dice. Why would something called Hezzobloggo have pools for Vegas? This is an close as I can get you: http://www.cultimate.com/tournaments/trouble-in-vegas-1/teams
  • "Flower Bowl Calgary". Flowerbowl is in Vancouver. Try this link. http://www.flowerbowl.ca/
  • "Type of seafood on low iodine diet". Dream on buddy. Top of the list of things you can't eat. Someone should really come up with a no-salt/iodine cookbook for this kind of thing.
  • "Sine Sine Cosine Sine". You are such a DORK.
  • "Benjamin Button I have to pee". I'm not the only one! Sooooo looooonnnggg.

Spilled Milk

Whoever thought up the expression "don't cry over spilled milk" did not own powder blue carpet. I'm sure it still doesn't sound that bad. Well, it was a BIG glass. And chocolate.

I didn't cry. I cursed. I scrubbed. I may have to buy some sort of area rug.

It spilled on a few papers on my desk as well. Okay, coffee table that my laptop sits on. It didn't hit anything important, which is good. I do now have a big brown stain (let's see if THAT gets google hits) on my 2009 property assessment. It made me feel 29.85 going on 12.

Natural Harvest

Rookie recently came across an interesting "cookbook". How exactly, I have no idea. It's called Natural Harvest - A Collection of Semen Based Recipes by Fotie Photenhauer. It's worth clicking the link to see the picture on the cover (don't worry, it's G-rated...wait, that means it will get less clicks). I'm sure it's just a joke, but still....ew.

Rookie may or may not have made a joke about semenmuffins, and cross-Canada pregnancy. I'm sure you can fill in the rest. ;)

So please please please tell someone that you are going to buy them A Harvest of Healing Foods: Recipes and Remedies for the Mind, Body, and Soul or Nature's Wild Harvest or A Glorious Harvest: Robust Recipes from the Dairy, Pasture, Orchard and Sea for their next birthday, and then actually buy them Natural Harvest. But never never eat at their house again.

Sticking a Tennis Ball in My Ass

Sound terrible? I think so too! So it was my IT band (balls. by the way, this isn't in reference to the tennis ball. Balls is my favorite swear word right now). I've been to physio twice now to get it sorted out. Scrolling through to find my old post about this, I think I lied to my physio (not intentially) on how long it's been bothering me. I thought for sure it was in January. Anyway, I tried to roll it, stretch my hamstrings, ride more and run less, and just rest. I thought it was getting a lot better, but then my right knee starting hurting. Like walking home from work hurting. This was making me very grumpy because a) I am a little obsessed with excercising b)I'm freaking out about turning 30, and injuries that don't heal do not help. Good news, though: I'm not turning 30 after all! That and the knee this was just my other IT band, tightening up to be like it's brother. That's good because with two sessions of physio, it's already feeling markedly better. It didn't bug me at all at Peak Power on Monday, which makes me the opposite of grumpy. :) Anyway, all of this is to get to my SI joint, which was also quite sort. One of the physio excersises I was given is to dig a tennis ball into it to loosen it up. I don't own a tennis ball, so I tried a stress ball (I do have stress ;) ) and a field hockey ball (stupid sport, stupid idea) and neither really worked. I figured someone would have one I could borrow. The vast majority of my friends are into sports, and some of them even have garages (so jealous). I was over at the Sills for the 2nd Annual Garage Hack Party (just like it sounds, plus waffles!) and noticed a few tennis balls lying around. I asked if I could borrow on for a few weeks, and being the nice folks that they are, they complied. Jeff asked, "what for?" and I said (ARRGG....use your brain next time Adams!) "I need to put it in my ass". Ouch. Weird: they don't want it back.

Hockey, Lately

The last two hockey games have pretty cool. We've had our assess handed to us both times, but I still enjoyed the game. Mostly I want to get a good workout, and that I did.

The game before last was by far my favorite yet. It was at the Oval, at one o'clock on a Saturday. Perfect! I don't work Saturdays, and I usually don't sleep at one o'clock. The other team was way better than us. I think we lost 5 or 6-0. But they were really fun to play. Despite being so much better, they were good sports enough to still play hard. Also, I got to play centre and split play time 50-50. I was pretty tired: sweet.

And last but most definitely not least, Jeff and Lindsay came to cheer us on! Thanks guys. They even took a picture for me to put on the blog, which is especially perfect considering I left my camera in Waterloo. (Hence the exclusively text posts of late). In case you are wondering (looking at the picture), yes, my jersey is ginormous, and yes, I am a sweaty sweaty mess. Go Nellie.
