Stealth Organics Update

It's been a while since I've posted about the ongoing Stealth Organics program*.  It's now been a few months.  It's been a huge success.  Since moving in, we've been able to green bin every bit of organic waste we make.  I'm it's obvious that I want to do this because it's better for the environment, but I also like the banana peel measure.  The banana peel measure is my very informal term for tracking how much fresh food we eat.  I find that a good healthy-sized bag of organics means that we ate a lot of fresh food, fruits and vegetables over the week.  It's a nice benchmark.  I'm sure Stealth Organics works well because we live in are area of mixed density.  There is service to houses not to far from us.  Having a dog helps a lot too - we take him out all of the time anyway.  So if you live in Toronto in an apartment without green bin service, please give it a try.  Fingers crossed that the City of Toronto starts offering organics service to apartments soon.

*the "program" where we green bin our organics every week, but dropping them into other people's curbside green bins under the cover of darkness.  We usually freeze them first so that they don't get too gross or drippy.

Kudos to you for doing this. I think when cowtown starts doing composting in a few years I will do the same - good idea with freezing it too! =)
