this is one of my first posts not originally typed. (i wrote this yesterday, in a notebook). as i mentioned in my last post, public computer terminals are few and far between. my hostel has wifi, but the computer is broken and i didn't bring my own laptop. since it was 36 degrees today, i'm back at my hostel for a siesta.
my hostel is hilarious. i just discovered that my window actually does open. i failed to do so last night, and i did try. i thought it was painted shut. my room is industrial, basic, and uterly without charm, although the staff are friendly at it was pretty cheap for a private room. it has a very communist feel to it - the building. i'm almost positive that the red stain on my carpet isn't blood.
i like bratislava. it's small and quite for europe, and while there may not be any famous attractions, there also aren't the hords of people that go with. go to. go with. strangers and service people have been sweet, and i have enjoyed hearing and reading bits of German. i even bought a trashy little newspaper to see what i could read. there is a topless equivalent of a sunshine girls (no, i didn't know that when i bought it). she likes gummy bears, but i don't understand what she doesn't like.
public transportation is great here. it's easy to navigate and comes all the time. a 15 min ticket is just 0.5 Euro. I wish the TTC would do that.
I booked a ticket (ahem, farkerten) to vienna tomorrow on a boat. I imagine the 17 Euro that I paid is more than a train ticket would have cost, but I think it will be funsies.
aside 1: yesterday i rolled in late, got to my hostel and discovered i was starving. i had a granny smith apple and two little packets of nutella that made the best midnight snack ever.
aside 2: somehow i thought i would be 'normal' temperature after the tournament. i feel like i am trying to invent new places to sweat, and it's actually cooler here than in prague.
