I'm a big fan of John Mayer, so I was very happy to get his new album, Born and Raised a week ago.
After Battle Studies, I was a bit skeptical. The only songs I really enjoy off that album are the radio hits Heartbreak Warfare and Half of My Heart, and the second one always gets jumbled in my iTunes since it's also by Taylor Swift.
I've listened to John Mayer since Room for Squares (Why Georgia and 3X5). I love Something's Missing and Come Back to bed (Heavier Things) and Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (Continuum) If you're the sort of person that like to make retching noises at Your Body is a Wonderland, try some of his bluesy stuff: I Don't Trust Myself With Loving You and Vultures (Live, from Where the Light Is).
If you liked Heavier Things, you will like Born and Raised. It's has a mellow sound like Heavier Things, that's great for working, road trips and singing along. Listen to this album late at night or early in the morning. My favourites are Shadow Days , Speak for Me, and the strangely named Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967. The play count on that last one if getting embarrassingly high. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
If you like it too, get it here on Tunes.

Jeff and I were having a conversation yesterday about if you were forced to listen to only 1 CD for the entire rest rest of your life, which one would you pick. Then I read this blog and I'm thinking that you might pick John Mayer of some sort. In the end we concluded that it's too hard to pick one so we are each allowed five...we are still working on the list.
