I've been a fan of Robert Bateman since I was a little kid (grade 7?). He was one of the first artists I came to realize existed. I loved his work and his pro-environmental stance. Well, at least I do now. I remember being shown his work in early junior high, and studying him closer in high school art class. He's a interesting dude - if you are unfamiliar with his art, check out his website.
Robert Bateman lives on Salt Spring Island (I'm not a stalker - it's on his website!), but he grew up in Toronto in the neighbourhood I just moved too. Jo and I were walking through the park to get home, and we saw a small group of people gathered, all huddling under umbrellas. As we passed, a man whispered to me, "that's Robert Bateman!", and there he was! I thought it was fitting that we were returning from the AGO. We didn't follow them (some sort of walk in Bateman's old hood), because as I mentioned, I do not want to be labelled a stalker. Before we left, we met Bateman's wife. Before learning who she was, I asked if she was thinking, "woah, cool, Robert Bateman!!" like I was (in less words). Not so much. Not so much.
