Jo and I enjoyed the Raptor's game last night, as we always do when we go. A few highlights were:
-A win by the home team.
-A few spectacular dunks.
-Lopez's face when he shoots free throws. It's as if he's trying to put them in with only he mind. (he plays for New Orleans)
As always, I had to wear earplugs the whole time at the game. At one point a staffer ran by with a giant flag that said "Make Some Noise!". I added my hands over my eyes (nothing new). It made me wish that I had a GIANT flag that say's "SHHHHHH" and/or "Please Be Quiet!" I don't mean for the game, I just mean in life. Perhaps with my own staffer to run in front of me.
I really wish Toronto, specifically the TTC, would learn from other cities when in comes to public transportation and event planning. For example, when San Diego has NFL games, they bring in extra trains to get all those people to and from the stadium. Toronto releases 20,000 people on the badly-designed Union station basicaly all at once. It's a nightmare. Last night's game has only Sunday subway service (I think). Part of the bottleneck last night was just getting people down in the station and down to track level. Even once that happens, the trains were mobbed. It just makes sense to get people in and out of Raptors (and of course other events) on the subway. The city should be encouraging that. Would it be so difficult/expensive to send in a few extra trains at the time that major events are released? Come on Toronto, be more like San Diego. It would encourage more sustainable travel, discourage drinking and driving and just be a heck of a lot nicer for thousands of people.
