Victoria has been fun so far. Jo is here for CUC, and I am....also here. We arrived on Tuesday, two days before the tournament. We had a chance to wander around town, get our bearings, eat sushi and nap (it was an early flight). In one of those minor miracles that only happen at frisbee tournaments, it turns out a friend was on our flight, and plans to take a shuttle quickly upgraded to a lift to the hotel - wonderful.
On Wednesday, we explored Goldstream Provincial Park (pictures to follow) and then Duncan for a swim in the ocean.
Yesterday, as games begun, I rented a "hybrid" bike and went for a ride. I think "hybrid" in this case meant half bicycle, half wheelbarrow. What a clunker. The tournament shuttles didn't work for me yesterday, so I wanted the bike to explore, for "light exercise", and to get me to the field to watch Lotus vs. Traffic. It was a good ride, but a bad brain day. I only went about 20 km (not counting home from the fields). I when around the edge of town (primarily the west edge), with a beautiful view of the ocean the whole way. No map today because Map My Ride is unhappy.
I stopped three times along the way (again, bad brain day) to explore beaches and rocks. The Map My Ride App on my phone has an annoying habit. Every hour, it shouts out stats, even if the phone's ringer if off. I really need to look into that. Anyway, with all the stops to play on the beach, I hadn't made it far after an hour. I was riding up the o.n.e. really big hill, when my phone announces loudly that in one hour, I have traveled eight kilometres, with a currently speed of seven kilometres an hour. How embarrassing!
